Where a Single Footprint Lasts 1,000 Years

Ancient Music Ireland wish to celebrate the expeditions by the great Irish man Sir Ernest Shackleton.  To this end we are releasing an audio recording of one of the pieces performed as part of a concert in 2012 at the National Concert Hall of Ireland in the presence of Lady Shackleton and other members of the Shackleton Family.

The piece entitled ‘Where a single footprint lasts a 1000 years’ was composed by Michael Holohan around writings from Shackleton’s diaries of the expedition from 1907 to 1908in which the team he led came within 90 miles of the South Pole. The concert was performed in the same room at the National Concert Hall of Ireland where Shackleton had presented the expedition in 1911 before a full house and to great acclaim in what was then the lecture hall of University College Dublin.
